Wellington Ambulance Donation

4 July 2007 - Lions Club Help Cardiac Arrest Victims

Thanks to various fundraising efforts by Lions Club of Wellington (Host), Wellington Free Ambulance has two new automatic Lifepak 1000 defibrillators (AED’s). These small but effective pieces of emergency equipment are used to restore a regular heartbeat for patients in cardiac arrest. Unlike the 12 lead defibrillators carried in WFA’s front line ambulances, no sophisticated training is required for this equipment.

Valued at $4,500 each, the units will be used in WFA’s patient transport vehicles and are a welcome addition to WFA’s equipment inventory, says Operations Manager Rob Jenkins.

“These defibrillators are a valuable life-saving tool that enables us to optimize the outcome of a patient in cardiac arrest. Currently our patient transport vehicles are equipped with AED’s which are more than seven years old and in need of replacement, so this donation from the Wellington Lions (Host) is very timely and greatly appreciated”.

The Lions Club of Wellington (Host) has been a strong supporter of WFA over the past 48 years, and even donated a Landrover rescue ambulance to WFA in 1965.

Later this year, WFA, New Zealand’s only free metropolitan ambulance service celebrates eighty years of providing an emergency ambulance for the greater Wellington community.
